Giovanni Giardini 1646-1721
DISEGNI DIVERSI. JOAN GIARDINI INU: ET DELIN.
MAXI.S IOSEPH. LIMPACH PRAGENSIS SCULP. ROMA
|
Giovanni
Giardini was an Italian draughtsman and master silversmith, whose reputation
is based on his pattern-book designs for sacred and common objects,
which were engraved on copper by Maximilian Limpach of Prague and published
in Prague in 1714 as 'Disegni diversi'. This is the most important collection
of patterns for silversmiths in the 18th century. The objects are divided
into different groups, with original decorative designs; they demonstrate
the influence of Baroque sculpture and architecture and were the most
important source of inspiration for Roman silversmiths in the 18th century.
