Antique and Vintage Japanese
Obi Tapestries/Throws
DETAIL OF OBI.08
These exceptional quality tapestries are handcrafted with heavy silk and
silk/rayon brocade from antique and vintage Obis of Japanese Meiji (1868 - 1912),
Taisho (1912 - 1925) and Showa (1926-1989) era origin.
Obi tapestries are hand tailored with a satin-silk or silk-rayon bordering (1/2 to 4 1/2 inch wide)
and come with a silk, rayon or cotton lining. Some of them are equipped with traditional attach* straps
for a mounting rod(as shown in some of the images), some with hidden rings (on the backside) for wall placement.
A set of attach straps or rings can be ordered with the purchase.
*Ready to be attached to a mounting rod (not included), a traditional way of mounting tapestries on a wall.
Vintage and antique Obis have been used as part of a woman's Kimono dress and show signs of wear
and light discolorings from stains. Do not attempt to wash or dry-clean, please,
as there is a danger of damage to the fragile antique fabric!
Obi tapestries may be used as an elegant throw on furniture or a grand piano...
an extraordinary addition to a fine interior decoration.
