| THE NATURALIST LIBRARY One of the finest publications of natural history in the 19th century was supervised by Sir William Jardine. As editor of the Naturalists Library , Jardine commissioned experts to write volumes on their fields of animal studies. From 1833-1842 forty volumes were published on birds, fish, insects, mammals and reptiles each containing appr.30 engravings by William Home Lizars (1788-1859).
