| THE NATURALIST LIBRARY One of the finest publications of natural history in the 19th century was supervised by Sir William Jardine. As editor of the Naturalists Library, Jardine commissioned experts to write volumes on their fields of animal studies. From 1833-1842 forty volumes were published on birds, fish, insects, mammals and reptiles each containing appr.30 engravings by William Home Lizars (1788-1859).
